The administration has taken the initiative to build a park on the traditional 18-acre Kharuvaj Bill of Gajghanta Union of Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur. Already 40 percent of the work of the park has been completed. This is going to fulfill the long-term expectations of the people who love entertainment in that area. As the construction work of the park has started, there has been enthusiasm among the common people. Most of the places in that bill were occupied by the influential. Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nahid Tamanna and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Saha took the initiative to build a park there after recovering it. They are supported by the local parliament member and opposition chief whip Mosiur Rahman Ranga, upazila parishad chairman Ruhul Amin, chairman of Gajjhanti union Liakat Ali and local people. On July 15, the member transferred Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Najneen laid the foundation stone of the park. This park has been named Kharuvaj Upazila Administration Park. People from all walks of life have welcomed the aesthetic initiative of constructing the park. Maqbul Hossain, a local resident, said that there was no entertainment system for the people of Gangachara upazila surrounded by rivers. People here used to rush to the city for entertainment. Now the park is here. If the park is constructed, employment will be created here, as well as the healthy mental development of the people of this area will be helped. Local UP member Bakul Mia said, “Government land grabbers could not succeed in building the park here despite many oppositions.Gajjhanti Union Parishad Chairman Liaquat Ali said that Upazila Executive Officer Nahid Tamanna and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Saha have set an exemplary example through various social and developmental activities since joining the upazila and have won widespread praise. There was no entertainment in our area. We welcome such an initiative. Mukul Mia, president of the Kharubhaj Bill Fishermen’s Association, said, “The park is essential for the entertainment of the people of the area. We are very happy to hear that there is a park here. At the park we will get a good opportunity to have healthy entertainment and spend time with children, relatives and family members. I am demanding to finish the work of the park quickly. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Saha said, “After I joined Gangachra, I saw that there is no such park for people’s entertainment in the upazila. Considering this matter, on the advice of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, I have taken the initiative to build the park in Kharuvaj Bill area of Gajjhanti Union with the cooperation of the local UP Chairman. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nahid Tamanna said, “Most of the land of the government bill was occupied and cultivated by the influential people. We rescued it and discussed with the MP and Upazila Chairman, there is no initiative to build an amusement park there. When the park is fully constructed, the people of this area will enjoy it. Incidentally, that bill is on about 18 acres of government land. Which is known as Kharuvaj Bill. The bill allows the government to give leases to fishermen for fishing. Recently the upazila administration recovered some of the land from the encroachers. Since there is no amusement park in Gangachra, the upazila administration accepted the plan to create an amusement park along with fish farming in the bill.
