A mobile court has jailed a drug-addicted son on the complaint of his father in Gangachra, Rangpur. On Tuesday (October 31), Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Nahid Tamanna conducted the mobile court and sentenced the drug-addicted boy to 6 months of unpaid imprisonment and fined Tk 1,000. It is known that Md. Likhan Mia (19) (student) son of Md. Mahubar Rahman of Betgari Mahuri Para of Betgari Union of Upazila got addicted to drugs without doing his studies properly. Likhon used to ask his parents for money every day, along with selling various household items, to consume various drugs including ganja. If they did not pay, they were threatened and tortured in various ways. Fed up with his son's activities, father Mahubur Rahman appealed to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer to take legal action against his son. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahid Tamanna informed the officer-in-charge of Gangachra Model Police Station to produce the drug-addicted boy. Thana Police arrested the writer and produced it before the Upazila Nirbahi Officer. Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Nahid Tamanna conducted the mobile court and sentenced Likhan to 6 months of unpaid imprisonment and a fine of Tk 1,000 under the Narcotics Act. The writer's father and the chairman of the Union Parishad were present.
