Discussions, distribution of materials and social meeting were held in Gangachra, Rangpur, under the project of strengthening nutrition and food security through agricultural development, which is being implemented in the financial year 2023-24. Organized by the Department of Agriculture Extension, the materials were distributed after an exchange of views with the farmers of 78 families of Khaprikhal Bannipara village of Betgari Union of Upazila on Monday at the Upazila Agriculture Office premises. The meeting was presided over by Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Marufa Iftekhar Siddika and Project Monitoring Officer Amina Khatun was the chief guest at the meeting. AKM Faridul Haque, Agricultural Extension Officer Azmain Mostari, Assistant Agricultural Naval Officer and farmers were present. Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Marufa Iftekhar Siddika said, if the project is implemented, it will help in the production of safe quality vegetables, spices and seasonal fruits at the family level. The crops produced will meet the nutritional needs of the family as well as increase the income of the farmers. The Department of Agriculture will implement the project of setting up family nutrition gardens in uncultivated fallow land and courtyards of residential houses. If it is successfully implemented, it will increase food production as well as meet the family’s vegetable and nutritional needs. By doing this, the rural economy will also become active. Upazila Executive Officer Nahid Tamanna said that the current government, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, is working for ensuring food security as well as nutritional security of the people of the country. The food security of the people of the country is ensured through the production of more food grains than the demand, but the people of the country are lagging behind in terms of nutrition. Therefore, the government wants to ensure the nutrition of all the people of the country by filling the nutritional deficiency. Also wants to create nutritious generation. Safe vegetables, spices and seasonal fruits will be produced in these gardens which will increase the family’s income by satisfying the nutritional needs of the whole year.
